Dreadfully-Happy

By Crazy Insanity

Interlude
The moon shone full this night only softly lighting the ground. On a nearby stump a silver, glinting fox sat with a small bunch of unknown fruit resting in it's jaw. The fox was vigilant and looked in all directions, prepared to run if needed. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary to the fox. Right as it got comfortable, a bloodcurdling scream pierced the air. No more than three feet from the fox stood a bloody figure grabbing at it. The fox lept from the stump a split-second before the figure could grab it. Then it landed and looked back at the figure now running for it. The fox then disappeared into the forest trying its best not to look back. It ran hard and fast managing to avoid the trees. Brown blurs enveloped the fox the densening forest. It soon had to slow down to, but as soon as it did it entered a clearing with a small abandoned building. The fox approached the building, then entered it. "Back so soon, eh?"

What do you think? I'm pretty sure I have about 4 more chapters in reserve, but it gets less and less interesting...

Okay Chapter 1. Hope you enjoy it and feel free to criticize.

Chapter 1
Test Subject #259.

"I see you've brought the fruit." The scientist said. The fox sat, dropped the fruit, then nodded. "Good, you may return to your room." He said then turned to get back to work. The fox walked down a long corridor took a left and entered a room labeled: Test Subject #259. It proceeded in and curled up on a large bed in the center of the room where it fell slowly into a fitfull sleep.

"Hurry the anesthesia runs out in thirty minutes." "I'm trying, I'm trying!" Responded the doctor. "Well 'trying' is not good enough, you must finish, if it wears of before your done..." "I know. I knew when I took this job." The doctor said quietly, "I just didn't expect it to be this difficult..." "Heart-rate falling, brain responses low, Hurry!!!" "Oh no! We're gonna...!"

The fox awoke to the sound of a loud screech and, in a panic, ran into the hallway to check on the scientist. When the fox entered the room it saw him struggling with the same figure the fox escaped from. "Akemi," yelled the scientist, "get that vial and toss it to me!" Akemi then ran and clenched the vial in its jaw and proceeded to throw it to the scientist. He managed to catch it and pour it on the figure. The figure then fell to its knees and did not get back up. "Thank you, but you know you are supposed to tell me if your followed, Akemi." Akemi responded by slowly nodding yes then sitting. "What I have created should work as a fast acting poison to these so called 'zombies'." She tilted her head in confusion and looked at the zombie lieing on the floor. "Listen, I will need more time to perfect it just go back to your room and wait for me to call." Akemi listened, but wanted to leave, it was bad enough that she was living in a lab, but obeying a human was going quite far. She sat in the room and thought very deeply about running away from the scientist she so cared for, and the lab, but that would never happen. Akemi drifted off into a better sleep this time.

The chapters are short cause this was just a mini kind of thing for my friend.

I like this. It is curious and interesting. I feel the fox could have a bit more character, but it is well written. As for chapter length, you don't need to worry about that. Some of my chapters are less than a (A4) page long.
