As for my question, I'd like a serious answer. In your opinion, do you believe that the concept of erasing one's memories is moral?

A person may have painful memories, and wishes to be free of them. Because of those memories, that person may be agonized for the rest of his/her life, being crushed under an unnecessary burden of which they cannot be free of. Yet, memories are a part of you, they are what makes you who you are, in a way these memories are "alive". To erase your memories, wouldn't that be the same thing as killing a part of you off? Isn't that the same thing as the concept of murder? The murder of a person's character to reforge them in a way the person wishes to. A concept that lies on the boundaries of "playing god", isn't it? But another thing I'd like to say- even though we argue, memories are just data. In the end, they are just recordings of our brains, nothing more than mere objects, same as a cellphone or a car you own. In that case, shouldn't one be free to do of them whatever they want? They're not living beings, they're "objects" so does it really violate our morals when we alter them?
