View Full Version : Bunni wiki vandalized?

Someone has moved the entire content of the Bunni wiki frontpage and its talk section, and now clicking the Walkthrough link results in an awkward redirect.

I suggest that you guys lock down at least the frontpage. Also, due to the repeating vandalism throughout, perhaps the entire thing should be a bit more restricted.

Really? Wow...

I found it a little odd that anybody could edit it. I've added a few questions into the FAQ there that I had seen on the forums quite a bit (and was thinking of adding a few more as I came across them) but it's kinda sad people feel a need to do things like that. I mean show a bit of maturity, writing silly things in walkthrough is not funny, it's just annoying. Whoever did it, don't ruin it for people who genuinely want to update it with serious information.

Yeah, that's a wiki for you.

I think the walkthrough should be STRAIGHT up HTML. There isn't that much data to put up and it would be a lot more secure. It also wouldn't have that... wiki look.

That's what I hate about Wiki, and Wiki-Answer anyone can edit it.

and considering most of this forum is < 14/15 years old it isn't the greatest of ideas D=

Agreed. And if we were to keep the feature that the users can add information, there could simply be a sticky in the forums where you post stuff that you would want to include, then it is up to Andre, who handles the website, to add it, if he finds it necessary.

I think that would be a good idea.... perhaps we should move this thread to suggestions?

Cool - I'm glad you guys agree.

A pity that it just doesn't work out. I like the idea of letting us fans contribute and lessen the work for the staff (particularly Rose, who maintains the wiki), but like you said, the immature people make this rather difficult in practice. :(

I too think that you guys came up with the best compromise.

Yea, it's a shame that some people can't be trusted with a bit of 'freedom' and abuse privileges that in turn ruin it for everyone else.

Basically, because people keep deleting stuff on the wiki or editing it stupidly the suggestion is that rather than have it as a wiki, put it as a straight HTML webpage so it can only be edited by the mods, and to take a bit of the work off them if people come up with things that they think should be implemented into the FAQ and walkthrough, they post it in say a 'walkthrough suggestion' section and the mods can, if they wish, add it to the walkthrough.

Basically this would stop any vandalism to the walkthrough, as anything that is put into the walkthrough would have to go through the moderators. In it's current state anybody can change the walkthrough and this is resulting in people abusing the privilege to change it, by adding unacceptable content, or deleting content.

Does that make any sense?

See, this sort of thing works well with say, Wikipedia because you have hundreds if not thousands of users checking to make sure that the recently changed items are correct or acceptable.

We don't have that here. You can also lock Wikis so only certain "members" can change it and not just anyone. I think...

I think Wikipedia also i.p. bans people who do stupid crap on it. I remember at my old school the whole school network got banned off editing wikipedia because some idiots decided it would be funny to completely screw up a whole bunch of pages with obscenities and pr0n. I noticed the wiki on here checks your i.p. as well, does anyone know if it is possible for i.p. banning on this wiki? if it is I say try and trace who is doing this crap and ban them from editing.

Andre hasn't mess with the wiki priviledge so atm I can't ban anyone or moderate contents. I will try to poke him more.
